In general, full-time and part-time faculty and staff in benefit eligible positions are able to participate in the Health and Welfare plans and insurance programs.

There is unique eligibility information available for GW Retirement Plans and GW's Tuition Remission Program.

Eligible Dependents

You may enroll eligible dependents in certain benefits. Eligible dependents include:

  • Your spouse, as defined by federal law
  • Your common law marriage partner, as defined by state law
  • Your same sex or opposite sex domestic partner
  • You or your spouse’s child who is under age 26 (regardless of martial status) including a natural child, stepchild, a legally adopted child, a child placed for adoption or a child for whom you or your spouse are the legal guardian
  • Your unmarried children age 26 or older who are mentally or physically disabled and who rely on you for support and care
  • Children, of a same sex or opposite sex domestic partner relationship, up to age 26 (regardless of marital status)
    Please note: Your domestic partner must also be enrolled in order to cover his/her child.
