In addition to the basic coverage, you can purchase additional life coverage under GW’s group policy through The Standard in the EasyEnroll system. You have the following options to purchase:

  • Additional Life Insurance coverage for your spouse or domestic partner in increments of $5,000, up to a maximum of $375,000 or 50 percent of your coverage (whichever is less).
Please note that you must have additional employee life coverage to elect coverage for your spouse or domestic partner.
  • Additional Life Insurance coverage for your dependent children in increments of $2,000. Coverage for children is limited to a maximum of $10,000 or 50 percent of your coverage (whichever is less) for dependent children. Please note that you must have additional employee life coverage to elect coverage for your dependent children.

Evidence of Insurability (EOI)

IMPORTANT: Beginning October 30, 2017, Liberty Mutual will begin processing EOI for the university. Coverage requiring EOI is dependent upon Liberty Mutual approving your EOI.

As a new hire, you can elect up to the guaranteed issue (GI) without EOI. For additional employee life insurance, the GI is the lesser of $200,000 or 5x your benefit salary. For your spouse or domestic partner’s life insurance, the GI is the lesser of $25,000 or 50% of your additional employee life insurance. Amounts elected above the GI will require EOI. (If you elect additional life coverage, you will be enrolled with $200,000 or $25,000 until the EOI is approved.)

If you are enrolled in at least $10,000 but less than $200,000 of additional employee coverage, you will be able to enroll up to $200,000 without EOI after a Qualified Life Event or during annual Open Enrollment. Any amount over $200,000 will require EOI.  If you are not enrolled in any additional employee coverage, you will be required to submit EOI for any coverage amount elected after a Qualified Life Event or during annual Open Enrollment.

If you are enrolled in at least $5,000 but less than $25,000 of additional spouse coverage, you will be able to enroll up to $25,000 without EOI after a Qualified Life Event or during annual Open Enrollment. If you are not enrolled in any additional employee or spouse coverage, you will be required to submit EOI for any coverage amount elected after a Qualified Life Event or during annual Open Enrollment.

If you make an election that is subject to EOI, you can complete your EOI online or by completing a paper medical history form. (Please open using Internet Explorer.) Please review the instructions for EOI submission for the steps involved in the online EOI process. You have 60 calendar days from your hire date or Qualified Life Event date to complete your EOI. Please have company code GWUEE available when completing your EOI. You will need the company code to register on the website.

Beneficiary Information

Updating your beneficiary is very important. Your beneficiary is the person or entity you name to receive the life insurance benefit in the event of your passing. You can update your beneficiary information anytime during the year using the EasyEnroll System.

Additional life insurance benefits are paid to your beneficiary(ies) if you die while coverage is in effect. Some plans do not provide benefits if you die from certain causes, such as war or injury while committing a felony.

Dependent life insurance benefits are paid to you if your covered dependent dies while coverage is in effect.
